At Island Care, we really believe in the goodness of people. We strive to focus on the positive attributes of others and work hard to maintain a positive care culture. However, at the same time we are realistically cautious and protective of our Island Care community. We want to make sure that we create a community of care that we can all trust. At Island Care we take our safety procedures seriously. Here are a few ways that we promote safety behind the scenes to build that trust.

We screen ALL caregivers

Before caregivers can connect with your family, they submit to a screening process where we assess their conduct and eligibility to ensure they meet the Island Care standard. As a part of our screening process, all caregivers are required to complete background checks to verify their safety. We have created badges that make it easy for you to know what verifications and credentials a caregiver has on file with us. This way, you can immediately determine if a caregiver meets the requirements and safety standard you desire before you even reach out to them. Caregivers may receive the following badges:

  1. badge
This badge indicates that caregiver has undergone a Bermuda Criminal Records Check within the last 12 months and the results of that check do not reveal any safety concerns. If non-Bermudian, the caregiver has provided a criminal database search from the country of their primary residence before
  2. badge
When you see this badge, it lets you know that the caregiver has gone through the process of a child abuse clearance check through the Department of Child and Family Services. This check will often reveal any historical concerns related to the safety of children as it pertains to the caregiver.
  3. badge
This badge lets you know that the caregiver is registered as either a homecare provider or child care provider based on the regulation guidelines established by the Bermuda Government.
  4. badge
The Skilled Nurse badge shows that the caregiver is registered as a Nurse in Bermuda through the Bermuda Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  5. badge badge
These badges show that the caregiver possesses a valid CPR/First Aid/AED certifications for humans and/or animals.
  6. badge
A teenager who has completed the Bermuda Red Cross Certified babysitter’s course will be awarded this badge.
  7. badge
We care about your animals too! Certified animal care providers will be awarded this badge.
  8. badge
Care providers who has taken the scars awareness training in Bermuda and provides proof of completion will receive this badge.

We partner with you

Island care membership offers a secure foundation to begin your care search journey. We know that selecting someone to be entrusted with the care of your loved ones is deeply personal and varies. While Island Care endeavours to check all of the major sources to increase trustworthiness, we still strongly encourage families to carefully consider vetting care providers independently to make the best hiring decisions. This may include seeking additional references and testimonials of previous employer and conducting interviews to further build relationships and obtain peace of mind.

We're always on the alert

We monitor applications and messages for inappropriate behavior, content, spam, and fraud to ensure that our members are following Island Care’s community guidelines on our platform. We support an environment based on safety, honesty, accountability, and respect. We want to make sure that our members meet the Island Care standard and will reject individuals who demonstrate behavior or language that is not aligned with our values.

We take your reports seriously

See something that goes against these values like inappropriate conduct or content? Let us know. The flag icon directs you to a Report link on the job application, messaging, or profile pages. We review reports and messages. Whenever necessary, profiles that operate against our community guidelines are removed from the platform.
